GUSD's Energy Conservation Program is a success! Under the guidance of the District's Energy Conservation Coordinator, Energy Education, Inc., and participation district wide, GUSD has saved over 20% in utility costs. But that's not all, we also have reduced our greenhouse gas emissions by 147,908 MMBTU - or the equivalent of 12,660 metric tons of CO2. That's like removing 2,273 cars from our highways for one year or planting 323,929 tree seedlings and letting them grow for ten years. That's a lot of savings!
As the Energy Conservation Coordinator, my job is to monitor energy usage, identify energy-saving opportunities, audit school sites and make energy-saving recommendations based on GUSD’s Board-approved Energy Policy. My goals for this year include developing school and community awareness of the Energy Program, seeking out low or no-cost programs for energy efficient upgrades and investigating alternative energy sources.
GUSD is an ENERGY STAR Superior Energy Performer for the year 2010, with 38 of our sites receiving the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star Label, acknowledging their commitment to energy efficiency on a national scale. The benefits of the Energy Conservation Program are two-fold: to control rising utility costs, while at the same time, preserving the environment for future generations.
If you have any questions about the program, please contact me. I welcome your comments and suggestions.
